Shades of Pink Interview - Torie James

After giving you teasers of the stories included in the Shades of Pink Charity Anthology in September, this month I'll tell you a little more about the authors involved. I interviewed them with questions about their contributions, their writing life, their works in progress...

Today, Torie James

Kallysten - Let me first thank you for taking part in this project. Your story takes us to the Greek pantheon. What drew you to it and to its gods, goddesses… and the Fates?

Torie James -Funny story that! About three years ago, I found myself home for a bit as I recovered from an illness. I hadn’t been keen on this Facebooking business but had nothing much to do and needed an escape of sorts. I’m a HUGE fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s “Dark Hunter” books and ended up joining an RPG group that was dedicated to her “world”. I chose the role of Clotho, one of the Fates. I’ve found that people mostly have nothing nice to say about Fate and I felt it was time the world saw it from a different point of view.

K - To the risk of being spoiler-y, I feel like mentioning that the story does not have a happy ending. I even found it touched some delicate issues, as for example when the young heroine is drawn into a physical relationship she might not have been ready for or wanted. Do you have plans to continue the story in the future and give her a HEA?

TJ - Actually, yes I do plan on writing a series of short stories where we follow the heroine (Cloie) along her journey. I can’t say, right now, if she is going to get her HEA. *grins* It’s up to the Lady Fate herself. But I want her to have one. It was, it is, important to me to show that not even Goddesses have “perfect” lives or make perfect choices.

K - What is your favorite thing about being a writer?

TJ -I absolutely cannot pick just one thing. I love it all. Even the stress.

K - Can you tell us about your current writing project or next release?

TJ -Let’s see, by the time everyone sees this, my debut novel, Timeless Night, should be out from Breathlesspress.com. It’s the first book in my New Camelot series. I took the legends of Excalibur, Arthur and Camelot and gave a new spin on it all. Currently, I’m working on Book Two, Timeless Desire, as well as writing up part two in my Cloie Chronicles.

K - Would you care to share an excerpt from it?

TJ -Love to! This is just a small bit from “Timeless Desire”…
“There will be no divorce, Nim. And even if I granted one, it changes nothing. We’re blood bound. No getting past it unless you’re ready to step past the final veil. And me personally? I’m not ready yet. We just woke up four months ago. It’s a new world out there. I want to see it. Be part of it. Finding the others, being with them…don’t you feel it? Don’t you want it?” Gawain’s lips were inches from hers, his eyes blazing with a zealous passion that had been restrained until now. “Can’t you just let it go? Let the past die? I’m not proud of what I did. It was a weak moment. One I’ve paid for every single day, trust me on that.”

“Trust you? Trust you? I’d rather take a running leap onto the face of the sun, Gawain. I trusted you once and you ruined my life. I trusted you once more and you helped kill what I loved. Excuse me if I find your use of that particular word ironic.”

K - Thank you again for being a part of Shades of Pink. Any last word before I let you go back to your writing?

TJ - Just a hearty thank you for all the hard work YOU put into this project, organizing it and making sure all went smoothly. You rock, lady!

K - Aww thank you!
